Ben West raises key questions on climate change at our AGM

unacto1UNAC-Vancouver was very pleased to welcome Ben West of Tanker Free BC as guest speaker at our 2015 Annual General Meeting.  The evening was held at Fairleigh Dickinson University and was attended by both UNAC members and the general public.

The evening began with Courtney Stzo giving her annual report as Co-President of UNAC-Vancouver.  Courtney highlighted the work of UNAC-Vancouver over the past year, noting the winners of the UNAC sponsored awards, the development of a conference on gender issues to honour Rosemary Brown, the 2015 Splane lecture on food security, the Think Global Link Local networking breakfast and the sponsorship of the Vancouver based Canadian High School Model United Nations.  Courtney also gave special thank you to the volunteer website writers of the past year: Sabrina Miso and Brittney Potvin.

The audience was then treated to an engaging, dynamic and thought-provoking talk by Ben West on the issue of Climate Change.  Ben discussed the implications of being a “Gateway to the Pacific” for British Columbia.  He also discussed the impact that resource and energy development will have on British Columbia and Canada in the future.  He noted the importance of developing strong infrastructure, science-based targets to reduce climate change and positive relations with First Nations groups across the province.  To hear Ben’s complete talk, please click here:
