On April 2, 2012, the United Nations Association Vancouver Branch held our Annual General Meeting at the Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House in East Vancouver. Co-President Patsy George chaired the meeting and welcomed new members to the Board while thanking those who are stepping down.
Following the business portion of the meeting, UNA-Vancouver was pleased to host guest speaker Kelly Quinlan, Education Manager at UNICEF Canada. Kelly spoke on the topic of Children’s Rights and UNICEF Canada’s work to introduce Rights Respecting Schools into schools across Canada.
The Rights Respecting Schools Initiative enriches school culture in a way that is directly connected to the work schools are already doing by enhancing a school’s current programming and rights-respecting culture.
Through a rights-respecting approach to policy, decision-making, school and classroom programming, schools are learning about the importance of rights and the responsibilities that accompany them. You can find more information on the UNICEF Canada website.
